The Lycian Way

"Exploring the world is one of the best ways of exploring the mind, and walking travels both terrains. Walking is a mode of making the world as well as being in it, and it allows us to know the world through the body and the body through the world."

Lycia is the historical name of the Teke Peninsula, which juts into the Mediterranean on Turkey's southern coast. The Lycian way is a 509 km way-marked footpath around the coast of Lycia, from Fethiye to Antalya. Mostly rural path winds through everything from deserted, inaccessible beaches to literally breathtaking mountains. Around twenty major sites remain today with the Lycians' unusual funerary architecture dominating the unspoiled land of Lycia.
